Around six weeks after his inpatient leukemia treatment, coach Sinisa Mihajlovic from the Italian first division club FC Bologna left the clinic again. That announced his club. According to this, the 53-year-old Serb was “in good condition” when he was released from the Sant’Orsola Hospital of the Northern Italian city.
Mihajlovic’s illness was diagnosed in 2019 shortly after taking office in Bologna and made public by the ex-professional itself. Shortly afterwards, the coach had undergone a bone marrow transplant. Subsequently, his recovery also made the hoped -for progress.
Finally, however, Mihajlovics dealt with the risk of relapse after a further check -up again as increased. “In order to prevent cancer, I have to undergo therapy. My remission after the bone marrow transplant was excellent, but unfortunately these diseases are insidious,” said Mihajlovic before the start of his new treatment cycle in the clinic.
Despite his health handicap, Mihajlovic had never completely abandoned the coaching position in Bologna and only temporarily put the management activities into the hands of his assistants. The contract of the two-time European Cup winner (state championship cup in 1991 with Red Stern Belgrade and Cup winner Cup 1999 with Lazio Rome) runs until 2023. According to his Clubs return to the bench on the home stretch of the season. Bologna has nothing to do with the relegation battle in 13th place.
