With major events around the world canceled or postponed during the first half because of the new coronavirus, the status of Gamescom 2020 is questioned. In an ad published on Twitter today, the organizers of Gamescom confirmed that the event is still in progress.
The city of Cologne, host of Gamescom 2020, has banned all events with more than 1000 participants until April 10 to help prevent the spread of CVIV-19. Last year, La Gamescom welcomed 373,000 participants. The event is currently planned from August 25th to 29th, well outside the current prohibition window.
“The Gamescom taking place at the end of August 2020, we are currently not concerned with this decree,” wrote the organizers in a statement. “However, we will of course follow the recommendations of the responsible authorities regarding major events, evaluate them daily and make our decisions after careful consideration. The preparations for # Gamescom2020 continue as planned according to the current state of the determined date. »
In their statement, Gamescom officials also responded preventively with the concerns about the Notes. If the event is postponed or canceled, anyone who bought a ticket via the official channels will be refunded.
